Skid steer grapples let one operator grab, carry and place brush, logs, rocks and debris. This page covers four options: a rotating grapple, a rock grapple bucket, a root grapple bucket and a log grapple.
How to choose a grapple style
Start with the material you move most.
- Logs, pipes and poles: the Landhonor Log Grapple lists a 48" grapple opening, a 42.1" tine length and a 6400 lb max capacity.
- Precise placement: the Landhonor Rotating Grapple has a 127° hydraulic rotating base and a jaw opening of 5 in. closed to 41.5 in. open. It includes a handheld remote.
- Land clearing and storm cleanup: the 78" Rock Grapple Bucket has a 50-inch hydraulic grapple opening and eight replaceable cast teeth. The GIYI 72" Root Grapple Bucket handles brush, logs, rocks and stumps.
What to check before you buy
- Mount: all four list a universal skid steer quick attach. Confirm it matches your machine's coupler.
- Hydraulics: every grapple needs hydraulic hookup. The GIYI lists hydraulic pressure up to 3,000 PSI, so compare that with your machine's auxiliary hydraulics.
- Weight: the GIYI is approximately 800–900 lbs. Check that your skid steer can lift and carry that weight, plus the load.
- Width: the GIYI is 72" wide and the rock grapple bucket is 78" wide. A wider bucket covers more ground but needs more room to maneuver.
- Construction: the rotating grapple uses Grade 50 steel. The rock grapple bucket uses Q345B steel. The GIYI has tines of approximately 1/2" thick heavy-duty steel and dual independent top clamps.
- Wear parts: the rock grapple bucket has replaceable cast teeth, which helps with long-term upkeep.
