Start with your hydraulic flow
Match the cutter to your machine's flow before anything else.
- Standard flow: the WIG XN-QG01-72 and JCT 72" are standard-flow cutters. The JCT lists a 20 GPM maximum.
- High flow: the Topcat 68" and Raytree RHBC72S are high-flow. The Raytree lists 18–35 GPM.
- Articulating: the Landhonor ABC-13-125A runs on 14-20 GPM.
Check your skid steer's output against the listed range for any model you consider.
Fixed deck or articulating head
A fixed-deck cutter suits open ground, fields and general clearing. The 72" models cover the most width per pass. The Wolverine C-RC42 has three blades and weighs 1,411 lbs. The WIG weighs 1,012 lbs and uses a universal skid steer mount.
An articulating head helps with slopes, ditch banks and hard-to-reach vegetation:
- Raytree RABC44: 44" cut, two 5/8" hardened blades, up to 3" cutting capacity.
- Landhonor ABC-13-125A: 42" cut, two blades, over 16 feet of vertical reach, up to 96" horizontal reach, 90-degree right swing and in-cab controls. It weighs 1,100 lbs.
Match cutting capacity to the work
Stated capacities vary, so compare them with the size of what you clear:
- JCT 72": up to 4 inches in timber
- Raytree RHBC72S: up to 3.5" in diameter, with four blades and a 60 HP gearbox
- Raytree RABC44: up to 3"For grass, weeds and light brush, any model here can work. For saplings and small trees, look at the stated capacity and blade count first.
