Real LTL freight prices from 1,006 quotes to 746 zip codes: about $240 under 250 miles and $560 at 500–1,000 miles for a typical attachment, plus what adds to the price.

How much does it cost to ship a skid steer attachment, a mulcher or a small machine across the country? Most answers online are a guess. This one isn't. Between August 5 and October 7, 2026, our site ran 1,006 real freight quotes from our yard in Chouteau, Oklahoma to 746 zip codes across the country. Every number below is what a buyer was quoted at the time, so it's the real price of getting a machine to your door.

The short answer

Most attachments ship LTL (less-than-truckload) on a pallet. For a typical 1,000–2,500 lb attachment going to a business with a loading dock, the middle of the range is:

  • Under 250 miles: about $240
  • 250–500 miles: about $400
  • 500–1,000 miles: about $560
  • 1,000–1,500 miles: about $790
  • 1,500+ miles: about $1,020

Shipping cost by weight and distance

Median quote to a business address with a dock (no liftgate, not residential):

Shipment weightUnder 250 mi250–500 mi500–1,000 mi1,000–1,500 mi1,500+ mi
Under 1,000 lb$200$230$270$370—
1,000–2,500 lb$240$400$560$790$1,020
2,500–5,000 lb$260—$880$1,270—

A dash means fewer than 8 quotes in that box, too few to call a typical price.

Two things stand out:

  1. Distance matters less than you'd think for light loads. A sub-1,000 lb pallet costs about $200 to go next door and about $370 to go 1,200 miles. Most of the price is handling, not miles.
  2. Weight matters more as the trip gets longer. Close to home, a 4,000 lb load costs about the same as a 1,500 lb one. At 1,000+ miles it costs about 60% more.

What adds to the price

Comparing quotes to the same zip code at the same weight:

  • Residential delivery: about +$89
  • Liftgate at delivery: about +$82
  • Both: about +$164

If you can take delivery at a business with a forklift or a dock, or pick up at the carrier's terminal, you skip most of that.

How long it takes

Typical transit time once the carrier picks up: 1 day under 250 miles, 2 days at 250–500, 3 days at 500–1,000, 5 days at 1,000–1,500, and about 6 days beyond that.

Ways to pay less

  • Pick it up. Pickup at our yard in Chouteau, OK is free, and delivery within 100 miles of Chouteau is free.
  • Use a business address with a dock or forklift. That alone saves around $160 against a home delivery with a liftgate.
  • Ship what you actually need. Extra buckets or spare parts on the same pallet usually cost far less than a second shipment.
  • Get the real number before you buy. Our freight calculator runs the same live carrier quote these numbers came from. Pick the machine, enter your zip code, and see the price.

When LTL is not the right fit

Larger machines like mini excavators, skid steers and lifts often go flatbed or hotshot instead of LTL. Loads wider than about 96 inches also start costing noticeably more. Our guide to LTL freight vs flatbed covers when each one makes sense.
