Container Shelter Sizes: Which Width Fits Your Container Spacing

Covermore container shelters come in three standard widths: 20, 26 and 40 feet. This is for anyone who has two shipping containers and wants to roof the space between them. The right width depends on the spacing between your containers, so here is how to match a shelter to your layout.

What widths do container shelters come in?

Covermore container shelters come 20, 26 and 40 feet wide. The 20-foot-wide shelter fits either 20-foot or 40-foot containers, the 26-foot-wide shelter fits 40-foot containers, and the 40-foot-wide shelter fits 40-foot containers.

The 20-foot width is the smallest size, and container shelters are made up to 40 feet wide between the containers.

Can you make a custom size to fit my gap?

No, Covermore container shelters only come in standard sizes. They can't be made to fit a non-standard gap between containers.

How much space do I need between my containers?

A 26x40 container shelter needs 25 feet 4 inches of spacing between the containers. A 40x40x15 container shelter has an actual inside clearance of 37 feet 8 inches, even though its overall exterior comes out to around 40 feet.

That means a 40x40x15 won't stretch far enough to reach across a pad that is 40 feet wide between the walls. Measure the gap between your containers against the shelter's inside clearance, not the size in its name.

What does the last number in the size mean?

The last number in a container shelter size is the height. On a 40x40x15, the 15 means 15 feet from the top of your containers to the peak of the shelter.

That height is added on top of however tall your containers stand.

Do container shelters mount on the inside or outside of the containers?

Either. Covermore container shelters mount with a twist-lock mechanism and can connect on the inside or the outside of the shipping containers.

Can I mount a container shelter on something other than containers?

Yes, but the twist locks have to come off. The shelter has twist-lock mechanisms for all four top corners of the shipping containers, and if you aren't installing it on containers, those have to be cut off.

Once the twist locks are cut off, the shelter's baseplates bolt onto your wood or concrete surface instead.

Are the containers included with the shelter?

No, the shipping containers are not included. Covermore does not sell containers, so plan on sourcing them separately.
