Used vs. Refurbished Scissor Lift: What Actually Changes

1 min readThe Lift Bros

Used and refurbished scissor lifts differ mainly in paint, decals and new tires; mechanically, The Lift Bros rates the two the same.

Choosing between a used and a refurbished scissor lift mostly comes down to looks and tires. At The Lift Bros, there isn't really a mechanical difference between a used lift and a refurbished scissor lift; the refurbishing is mainly cosmetic.

What Is the Difference Between a Used and a Refurbished Scissor Lift?

A refurbished scissor lift is stripped of its old decals, sanded down, repainted and given new decals, and it comes with new tires. A used lift is sold without that cosmetic work.

New tires come standard on a refurbished lift, but they are not only for refurbished lifts: The Lift Bros can put new tires on a used lift too. The refurbishing, prep work and painting are done in-house at our shop in Chouteau, Oklahoma.

Is a Refurbished Scissor Lift More Reliable Than a Used One?

A refurbished scissor lift is not mechanically more reliable than a used one; The Lift Bros rates both at the same level of quality and reliability. What sets a refurbished lift apart is mainly how it looks.

What If a Refurbished Lift Is Over Budget?

Look at a used lift in good condition with low hours. Some used lifts have been repainted without going through the full refurbish, which can be a middle ground between the two. Hours and condition vary from one lift to the next, so ask about the specific unit you are looking at.

How Are Used Scissor Lifts Checked Before They're Sold?

The Lift Bros buys used lifts from across the country, ships them in and checks each one over. If something needs to be changed out, it gets changed out, and most lifts get some kind of minor repair when they come in.
