Portable Restroom Septic and Water Hookup: How It Connects

A Chupp Industrial portable restroom hooks up to a water line and to an existing septic system or holding tank, so you have running water and toilets that flush. Here is how a portable restroom connects to water and septic, what comes with the unit, what you supply and how hot water works.

How does a portable restroom hook up to septic and water?

A Chupp Industrial portable restroom has three plumbing connections:

• A 1/2-inch threaded input for cold and hot water
• A 3-inch PVC connection for toilet waste
• A 1-1/2-inch connection for sink and shower waste

The water line goes to the threaded input. The two waste connections carry toilet waste and sink and shower waste out of the unit to your septic system or holding tank.

Does a portable restroom come with a holding tank?

No. Chupp Industrial portable restrooms do not come with a holding tank. You have two choices:

• Hook the unit up to an existing septic system.
• Get a holding tank and hook the unit up to that.

Who runs the plumbing to the septic system or holding tank?

The customer does. The plumbing that runs from the portable restroom to an existing septic system or holding tank is on the buyer, not included with the unit.

What plumbing comes with the unit?

Some units do not ship with all of their plumbing. For those, Chupp Industrial offers an optional list of plumbing items to plumb just the back of the unit. Everything past the back of the unit, out to the septic or tank, is still the buyer's to supply. Ask the team what is included on the unit you are looking at.

Can a portable restroom have hot water?

Yes — a portable restroom can have hot water by hooking up an electric tankless water heater. The water input on the unit handles both cold and hot water.
